Renae's '66 Fastback |
|
I had built a 65 Mustang for my friend (and racing partner) who lives in Santa Cruz. By the time I finished his car, we agreed on trading his 66 Fastback (now Renae's) in lieu of money. So I delivered his 65 to him and brought the 66 home, handed the keys to Renae and said Happy Anniversary! We started the project by completely stripping the car down to bare
chassis, complete media blasting, lots of metal repair, new rear quarter,
tail light panel, front aprons, front fenders & radiator support.
Everything on the car was painted while apart then assembled at the
appropriate time. Mild 302 with early iron J302 heads with bigger valves,
ported intake and exhaust runners, all balanced,Crane cam, Edelbrock
Pro Flo EFI, JBA shortie headers, brand new T-5Z, cable clutch conversion,
9 inch rear with 3.50 gears, Control Freak front control arms, Mustangs
Plus performance front and rear springs, 1 inch sway bar, late model
mustang power brake booster, SSBC 12.5 front brakes, Total Control power
rack and pinion, KRC power steering pump, Vintage Air A/C conversion,
Flaming River tilt column, GM 3 wire alternator conversion, HID headlights,
electric fan, tank armour kit, new rubber, headliner, stock seats with
headrest conversion and 3 point seatbelt conversion, Custom Autosound
w/MP3 and 4 speakers, 16x8 Vintage Wheel Works wheels, custom exhaust.
Custom paint by Glenn Southard @ Southard Auto Body, Body painted 2005
Jaguar Red Effect, ghost stripes same color just lightened 4 shades,
then shot with clear. Really a true restoration, every nut and bolt,
all the wiring, seals and such. All work done by me except paint.
The whole car took me 15 months to complete start to finish. Sometimes
I think it turned out too good, now Renae doesn't want to drive it when
it's raining, or if she's in traffic, or she needs to park it somewhere,or
she has to leave it unattended....Other than that,it looks good sitting
next to my racecar!! |
