Paul and Kathy’s 1968 GT/CS California Special

Our white on red GT/CS California Special came to us in a somewhat unusual way. I really wasn’t sure if I wanted to restore another Mustang after just finishing assisting my son, Andy, with his 65 coupe. In 1993 I was at the Napa Kmart and an employee was driving a very tired white Mustang. The tires were bald, the steering loose enough be unsafe, the paint thin and the front edge of the hood dented due to a delivery truck incident. It was, however, straight and complete with factory air, tinted windows, and a 302 J code engine. With an almost passing comment of, “If you want to sell someday, let me know.” A month later he decided to own a VW and a computer; and I became the third owner of a “made in San Jose - 68 Mustang”. That purchase led me to GHMC and a great group of friends. Today this 68 GT/CS California Special has been fully restored from the ground up with most of the work a good learning experience and a lesson in fund raising.
Many fun parades, car shows and activities have played a part in the enjoyment of this unforeseen acquisition. Probably one of the most interesting was meeting Carroll Shelby at the State Fair where he autographed the glove compartment door.
