Mary and Scott’s 66 Fortunate Fastback

It all started in 1968 when my dad came home with a new family car, a 1968 black six cylinder C4 white c stripe coup. My younger sister and I learned to drive in that car.  Unfortunately, the 68 became my sister’s first car. Flash forward to 1996, I was fortunately able to find a 1965 maroon fastback we could afford. Unfortunately the 65 became my son’s first car. Fortunately we still own this car today.  In 1998, I found a 1966 black fastback in our local paper want ad. Fortunately, Mary said go look at. It was only a half mile from the house. The 66 turned out to be a two owner car and a very nice no rust car. The 66 has spent its whole life in Napa.  Fortunately, again Mary said buy it.  We have slowly been working on the 66 ever since. We installed a new lowered suspension from Mustangs Plus including front and rear sway bars, Torque Thrust II wheels, new front disk brakes from Stainless Steel Brakes, power duel master cylinder with new stainless brake lines. An AOD transmission and 3.55 posi rear end have really improved the get up and go. This past winter was the best project yet. We were able to completely change out the interior. The 66 now has a red and black interior including reworked original seats with head rests and 3 point seat belts. During the Veterans home show I was invited to the Yountville car show on Fathers day. Fortunately the interior was done. Unfortunately it was suggested I keep the hood down at the Yountville show as the 66 still has the original C code engine. After laughing, we feel very fortunate to own this car as we plan to drive the C code until it dies.  Then we will look at replacing the engine.
